Kereru & Karaka

Description

The kererū (New Zealand pigeon) is a large bird with iridescent green and bronze feathers and white chest . The noisy beat of its wings is a distinctive sound in our forests.

Kererū are very important to the survival of New Zealand forests because they’re the only birds big enough to swallow the large fruits of native trees such as taraire and karaka.
